Events at the PSDA

The Professional Speech and Debate Association (PSDA) is thrilled to offer a streamlined selection of events designed to challenge and inspire adult competitors. Our focus is on providing high-quality, engaging experiences in four key areas:

• Prepared Speech: Deliver a well-researched, persuasive speech on a chosen topic within a 10-minute time limit. This event emphasizes structure, clarity, and impactful delivery.

• Prepared Acting: Perform a rehearsed piece, showcasing your acting skills within a 10-minute time limit. Focus on character development, emotional expression, and stage presence.

• Spontaneous Speech: Present an impromptu speech on a given topic with minimal preparation, within a 7-minute time limit. This event tests quick thinking, adaptability, and clear communication.

• Spontaneous Debate: Engage in a fast-paced debate on an assigned topic with minimal preparation time. This event emphasizes strategic argumentation, effective rebuttal skills, and persuasive speaking.

We offer two divisions for all events:

• Developmental Division: If you're a beginner, you can enter the novice section and compete against other newcomers to the field. As you gain more experience and improve your skills, you can move up to the open section and compete against more experienced competitors.

• Professional Division: Only the professional division is eligible for cash prizes. This division is designed for seasoned competitors, providing a challenging and rewarding experience.
