Tournament Director
Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for speech and debate? Are you skilled at managing tournament operations, handling communications, and delivering exceptional experiences for participants? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Tournament Director at the Professional Speech and Debate Association (PSDA).
Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary point of contact and the face of PSDA during tournaments
Oversee all aspects of tournament operations, including logistics, scheduling, and participant management
Handle tournament crises and ensure timely resolution of issues that may arise
Conduct tournament orientations and provide clear instructions to participants
Coordinate with tabulation and judging staff to ensure smooth tournament flow and accurate results
Interact with participants, coaches, and judges to ensure a positive and engaging tournament experience
Facilitate award ceremonies and present awards to deserving participants
Respond to emails and inquiries promptly and professionally during and in between tournaments
Create tournament invitations and communicate important details to participants
Maintain effective communication with tournament staff, participants, and stakeholders
Qualifications:
Previous experience in tournament directing, preferably in the speech and debate field
Strong leadership skills and the ability to handle high-pressure situations
Excellent organizational and time management abilities
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build rapport with diverse groups of participants, coaches, and judges
Familiarity with tournament software, such as Tabroom or Joy of Tournaments, is a plus
Compensation: As a Tournament Director at PSDA, you will be compensated for your valuable contributions. The compensation package includes a competitive daily rate of $250 per day when hosting a tournament, in addition to a 10% profit share based on tournament performance.
